Moderator:
Jove Nazatul is a queer, trans, non-binary immigrant of color living on Lekwungen-speaking land. Jove champions for underrepresented groups in the trades and was the first trans, non-binary person elected to the Board of Directors of CAF-FCA. As a performance artist and producer, Jove works to create platforms for QTPOC, and was named a CHANGEMAKER by Pride at Work Canada in 2024. As a project coordinator for CCWESTT, Jove is focused on creating psychologically safe workplaces for everyone.
Session 1: Lessons from the Field: Project Partners Panel
This panel brings together project partners to reflect on shared and divergent experiences engaging men as allies in gender-based violence prevention in the skilled trades, highlighting key learnings, challenges, and organizational insights.

Speakers:
Carol Paul is the Executive Director of the Manitoba Construction Sector Council, where she leads strategic initiatives that secure funding and develop programs to support the recruitment, retention, and advancement of Indigenous peoples, newcomers, women, and youth in the construction industry. Her work focuses on building inclusive pathways that strengthen both the workforce and the broader community. Before joining MCSC, Carol served as Managing Director of the Centre for Education and Work (2003–2012), where she oversaw national projects designed to expand opportunities for underrepresented groups. She was also a founding member of Urban Circle Training Centre (1991–2003), where she taught the Mature Student High School Program, supported graduates in securing employment, and managed the Adult Learning Centre.
Devin West is the Shift Change Project Lead at YWCA Halifax and has been a red seal carpenter and equity in trades advocate and ally for 25 years.
Khadija Hamidu is an accomplished leader with a rich background in fostering community development and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. As the Vice President of Economic Development for YWCA Hamilton, she has demonstrated a commitment to strategic planning and governance development within non-profit organizations, with a focus on enhancing the local economy through innovative sociological frameworks. In addition to her role at YWCA Hamilton, Khadija is also the Founder of Melanin Market, a platform dedicated to supporting Black and POC businesses on a national level. Through Melanin Market, she provides essential support to entrepreneurs and creators, aiming to amplify their voices and facilitate access to funding, marketing, and event opportunities with African influences.
Session 2: Community Co-actions
This session will explore CCWESTT and NextGenMen’s community co-actions as a novel approach to engaging men and communities in gender justice, with a focus on what makes this model different, what outcomes it produces, and what lessons have emerged.
Speakers:
Trevor Mayoh is a diversity, inclusion and violence prevention consultant who focuses on transformative projects around the world. Trevor works with government and corporate partners on deconstructing gender norms and creating innovative violence prevention programming. He possesses unique expertise from working with professional sports, hospitality, technology, extractive and post-secondary organizations internally and externally to help foster more inclusive, safe and successful environments. Trevor is a regular commentator on Newstalk 1010 programs and has been featured in numerous print, radio and television media throughout North America.
Samantha Blostein is the founder and director of Research for Change, a consultancy dedicated to strengthening the gender justice movement through systemic change. With over 15 years of experience, she provides leadership focused on dismantling structural barriers and holding systems accountable, shifting the focus from fixing individuals to transforming the environments in which they work and live. Samantha also serves as Global Engagement Specialist at the University of Guelph, where she teaches International Development Studies and partners with community-based and transnational organizations on applied projects exploring promising practices and innovations in gender equality.

Session 3: Ending Violence Association of British Columbia – Be More Than a Bystander
This session is an introduction to EVA BC’s Be More Than a Bystander (BMTAB) program and explores how engaging men is a key strategy in ending gender-based violence.

Ashley Humphrys (she/her) is the Manager of Social Enterprise at the Ending Violence Association, where she oversees corporate and workplace training programs, including the impactful Be More Than a Bystander program. With a robust background in both the non-profit sector and business, Ashley combines her experience in education, frontline roles, and business acumen to effectively manage and facilitate programs that promote safer and more respectful workplace environments. Her leadership is instrumental in driving initiatives that create lasting change in corporate cultures.
