Promoting equality between women and men

This 12-page briefing provides an update regarding the status of gender equality based upon data collected by the EU Gender Equality Institute. EU monitoring shows that action is still needed to achieve the gender equality goal. Advances have been made over the past decade, but progress has been slow and there are still significant differences between countries. Most score relatively well on achieving gender equality in the areas of health and education, but not  employment, access to economic and financial resources, or leadership, which is where the gender gap remains widest. In some EU Member States, progress has stalled or even gone into reverse in some areas, especially regarding time spent on unpaid care and domestic work, where the gap is increasing. Women's ability to participate equally in society is still affected by disproportionate exposure to violence.
