Learning to Lead – Event Recap

Learning to Lead: The Power of Systems Change was the first in a community-centred systems change learning series. This post recaps the event. The second forum is coming up in October 2025 in Montreal, Quebec.

Welcome to CCWESTT’s new blog! CCWESTT’s members are doing amazing work and we want to put the spotlight on them. Visit this space regularly for stories of our members, SETT workers, board members, partners, project contacts etc. We’ll share the stories of their life and work experiences or unique workplaces. On February 27, 2025, CCWESTT hosted an in-person forum in Calgary, Alberta, facilitated by Sylvia Cheuy from the Tamarack Institute. This free event was open to the science, engineering, trades and technology (SETT) advocacy community and allies. Attendees included SETT workers, provincial not-for-profits, and academic representatives.

With a facilitated introduction to systems change and collaborative roundtables, participants identified new ways to collaborate, barriers to collaboration, leading practices, and developed ideas on engaging their communities. Participants reported feeling “empowered” and noted systems change “requires persistence and intentional action across multiple system levels.”

CCWESTT learns from participants in forums like these and brings that knowledge into their project work. The learnings from this forum will help shape CCWESTT’s current systemic change project to create a National Gender Equality Report Card coming in Fall 2025.
