Action Guide for Gender-Based Violence

Gender-based violence is all around us. Every 6 days, a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. But abusive relationships often fly under the radar - and many people end up trapped for years under threats of violence if they try to escape or reach out for help. For people who face inequality, discrimination, and racism, there is an even greater risk of violence and abuse.

From stigma to safety. If you don't think this impacts anyone you know - think again. Two-thirds (64%) of people in Canada know a woman who has experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. When it comes to abuse, we still have a culture of stigma. Stigma silences and leads to preventable tragedies.

The Canadian Women's Foundation created the Signal for Help - a simple one-handed signal - that can be used to silently reach out for support.

But we need to know how to respond when someone is signaling for help in a dangerous and abusive situation. That's why we created the Signal for Help Responder's Action Guide. This easy-to-navigate tool helps you recognize when your loved ones, friends, coworkers, or neighbours are experiencing abuse, and offers you tips to respond in a supportive and stigma-free way.

This guide can help save lives.

Download the Action Guide now, and be a part of the network that ends the stigma and supports those experiencing abuse.
