Gender Equity in Canada’s Tech Ecosystem: Attracting, Retaining, and Supporting Entry- and Mid- Level Talent

This report examines the systemic barriers contributing to the persistent underrepresentation of women and marginalized genders in Canada’s tech sector, where they occupy less than 30% of roles and only 15% of senior leadership. It highlights critical challenges such as a widening $20,000 wage gap, exclusionary workplace cultures, and a lack of executive sponsorship that hinders career progression. To address these issues, the report advocates for a shift from performative gestures to structural changes, including standardized "blind" hiring practices, transparent pay audits, and inclusive benefit policies. Ultimately, it argues that closing the gender gap is an economic necessity, essential for solving Canada’s talent shortage and driving long-term innovation in the digital economy.
